ASR  An exceptional Philanthropist @ 64

As AbdulSamad Rabiu marks his 64th birthday, his philanthropic efforts come into focus. While his business acumen and wealth are well-documented, his commitment to giving back to society is equally impressive.

Through the BUA Foundation he has demonstrated a passion for education, health, and social services. His philanthropic efforts have endeared him to many, distinguishing him as an outstanding philanthropist in Africa.Rabiu’s background, marked by wealth and privilege, could have insulated him from the plight of the downtrodden. Instead, he has chosen to use his resources to transform lives and alleviate suffering. His guiding principle is that wealth should be distributed to those in need, earning him the nickname “Mr. Talk and Do.”

Under his leadership, BUA Group has become synonymous with philanthropy, going beyond profit-making to advance humanity. As Rabiu celebrates his birthday, his legacy as a philanthropist and humanitarian continues to inspire and make a lasting impact.

Abdulsamad Rabiu, through the BUA Foundation, has made significant contributions to various sectors in Nigeria and Africa, including: Reconstruction of Jakara Primary School in Kano, Construction of the Centre for Islamic Studies at Bayero University, Building of a 7,000-square-meter Pediatric Ward at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital

Other projects Payment of hospital bills for patients and provision of financial support to their families Support for sustainable development initiatives in health, education, and social development through ASR Africa’s Initiatives. Annual $100 million grant, with $50 million dedicated to Nigeria and $50 million to the rest of Africa, N1 billion donation to six higher institutions in Nigeria University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; the University of Maiduguri; the University of Ilorin; and the University of Benin.

Other  N10 million Widows’ Grant to the International Women’s Society (IWS), Construction of classroom blocks and hostel accommodation for various universities, $3 million education infrastructure support grant to the Ghanaian government. N2.5 billion grant towards the construction of a Mother & Child Hospital in Ogun State. Provision of medical equipment and ambulances to various hospitals. Support for the construction of the Akwa Ibom State University Teaching Hospital with N5 billion. These philanthropic efforts demonstrate  Abdulsamad Rabiu’s commitment to giving back to society and improving the lives of individuals in Nigeria and Africa.

BUA Group’s Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility

As part of its CSR initiatives, BUA Group has demonstrated a strong commitment to improving the lives of its host communities. In Sokoto State, the company has donated infrastructure   to the relocated communities of Gidan Bailu and Gidan Datti, including a school, hospital, and other essential facilities. Additionally, BUA Group has provided medical supplies and equipment to clinics and hospitals in its host communities, ensuring they have adequate resources to provide quality healthcare.

The company has made significant donations to enhance the lives of its host communities, including Drugs and a solar-powered borehole. Additionally, BUA Group has donated six 500KVA transformers and two security patrol vehicles to the community in Okpella. The company is committed to ensuring that clinics and hospitals in its host communities have access to adequate medical supplies.

AbdulSamad Rabiu’s philanthropic efforts through BUA Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives have had a profound impact on humanity, demonstrating his boundless compassion for the less privileged in Nigeria and solidifying his position as a leading philanthropists.

Infrastructure Development

BUA Group is also collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing on the expansion and dualization of the 132km Kano-Kazaure-Kongolam highway, in line with the Presidential Executive Order on Road Infrastructure Development. Furthermore, the company has been approved to fund the dualization of three critical sections of the Benin-Lokoja Federal Highway under the Tax Credit Scheme.

Diversification and Refinery Project

In 2020, BUA Group diversified into petroleum refining, selecting Axens as the technology provider for its greenfield 200,000 bpd refinery and petrochemical plant in Nigeria. The project aims to produce Euro-V fuels and Polypropylene for domestic and regional markets, reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum and petrochemical products. Upon completion, the refinery will contribute significantly to the development of local capacity in key sectors of the economy, aligning with BUA Group’s vision to add value and source raw materials locally.

The completion of the BUA Refinery, along with the Dangote Refinery, is expected to increase local refining capacity by at least 850,000 barrels per stream day (bpsd), excluding modular refineries. This development, combined with the output from local modular refineries, will provide the necessary supply for local consumption.

Abdulsamad Rabiu, Chairman/CEO of BUA Group, stated that the refinery will significantly contribute to reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum and petrochemical products. This project aligns with BUA Group’s vision to develop local capacity in key sectors of the economy, adding value and sourcing raw materials locally.
