Police refutes fake security alert on communal clash in Adamawa

The Adamawa state Police Command has refuted a supposed security alert reported by a government official that,a communal clash has erupted between the waja and lunguda Communities in which six (6) people lost lives in lamurde local government area in the state.
Spokesman of the command, S.P Suleiman Nguroje in a press release issued in Yola Monday debunked the claim describing it as “a very disturbing fake news being circulated on the social media” by some mischief makers.
In the release, the Command said that the whole incident had to do with an allegation of witchcraft slammed against some villagers residing in jakan village of Sowa ward in Lamurde council in the state.
dismissed the claim noting that, Preliminary findings have indicated that the matter was a case of witchcraft allegation made by a native doctor against six (6) people killed illegally base traditional belief in jakan village of Sowa ward in Lamurde council.
“The Adamawa State Police Command came across a very disturbing fake news going round the social media that Six(6) people killed as a result of escalated clashes of Lunguda/Waja.
“The content portrays the writer’s assertions of claiming that there were Lunguda/Waja clashes resulting to Multiple Violent killings. There’s no iota of truth, neither was any Lunguda/Waja clashes.
“Rather to put the record straight, on the 14/9/2024.one Dogara Sabon Reza and Jeri Dogara reported at Tigno Divisional police Headquarters that, One Salestina Bala 30yrs old, a resident of Kwa village in the same Lamurde local Government and her Collaborators Conspired, tortured and killed three through trial by ordeal whom they accused of witchcraft.
“The Complainants gave the names of the victims of the brutal killing ; as Lazarus Bashiru, Galion Isa, and Ajasko Yakubu as the Command unequivocally condemns such acts in the strongest terms and deployed security to arrest and bring the perpetrators to book”.The statement declared.
While cautioning the public especially social media users to be wary of their posts, utterances and write ups and to avoid violating the laws and threatening the peace of the society.
Adding his voice on the matter, the Senior Special Assistant on peace and security to Governor Fintiri, Comrade Ahmad Lawan urged the media to always cross check their facts on sensitive matters before going to the press with a view to Safeguarding the well being of the society.
Lawan who frown at the misleading supposed security alert reported by a government official challenged such appointee to ensure he liase widely before issueing statements which can throw the state on fire noting that the issue at hand relate to witchcraft not communal clash which of not tackle on time should have been disasterous.
“The attention of my office was drawn to a misleading supposed security alert circulating on the social media suggesting violent tribal or communal clash in lamurde local government area.
“While dismissing the false alarm, I wish to categorically state here that, the incident that happened was purely an allegation of witchcraft by a woman which resulted to the killing of six people she accused of the act and NOT communal clash between waja and lunguda.
I wish to call on all and sundry to disregard the claim and go about their legitimate endeavors as the present Governor Fintiri’s government is working assiduously to ensure the security and well being of its citizens”.Lawan advised.
