The Association of Lady Pharmacists (ALPs) in collaboration with the Young Pharmacists Group (YPG) Adamawa State Chapter and NYSC Charity Community Development Service Group, have joined the world to commemorate The International Day of The Girl 2024.

Led by the Director of Food, Drugs and Pharmaceutical Services, Adamawa State, Pharm. Rose Solomon Mandama, the Lady Pharmacists on Friday extended the “Girls Vision for The Future” campaign to Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Yola, Adamawa state, featuring sensitisation lectures on personal hygiene, cholera, dangers of premarital sex and drug abuse, with a call for creativity and skills acquisition for self reliance.

Speaking to our reporter, the ALPs Chairman, Pharm. Drambi Rebecca Peter revealed that the International Day of the Girls is observed annually on October 11, “it’s a key global moment celebrating girls everywhere, amplifying their voices, actions and leadership.

“It’s indeed a day that belongs to everyone who cares about girls and their rights; today, joining the world, we’re here to recognise and advocate for the full spectrum of girls’ rights.

“Keying into the calling, being a girl shouldn’t determine what she can do, where she can go or who she can become. However, that is the present reality for millions of girls across the world.

“Too many are being left behind, confronted by extreme challenges that deny girls their rights, restrict their choices and limit their futures; a challenge that ought to and should be addressed”.

She commended the school’s management, teachers and students for the support and cooperative

The students who appeared so delighted, thanked the YPL, YPG NYSC Charity Community Development Service Group and other collaborative NGO for choosing GGSS to mark the International Day of the Girl.

According to the UN, “The 2024 International Day of the Girl theme is ‘Girls’ vision for the future’.

“This year’s theme conveys both the need for urgent action and persistent hope, driven by the power of girls’ voices and vision for the future.

“Today’s generation of girls is disproportionately affected by global crises of climate, conflict, poverty and pushback on hard won gains for human rights and gender equality. Too many girls are still denied their rights, restricting their choices and limiting their futures.

“Yet, recent analysis shows that girls are not only courageous in the face of crisis, but hopeful for the future. Every day, they are taking action to realize a vision of a world in which all girls are protected, respected and empowered.

“But girls cannot realize this vision alone. They need allies who listen to and respond to their needs. With the right support, resources and opportunities, the potential of the world’s more than 1.1 billion girls is limitless. And when girls lead, the impact is immediate and wide reaching: families, communities and economies are all stronger, our future brighter.

It is time to listen to girls, to invest in proven solutions that will accelerate progress towards a future in which every girl can fulfill her potential…”
