A Vibrant Yobe Ministry for Local Govt: Delivering Hope, Assistance to the People
By Yusuf Ali
In the heart of the bustling Ibrahim Babangida State Secretariat Complex lies a ministry that has become a beacon of hope for thousands—The Ministry for Local Government. The premises buzzed with activity as citizens from diverse backgrounds streamed in, seeking for one form of assistance or another.
From the young to the elderly, men and women everyone was received warmly by the Commissioner, Permanent Secretary or the Director Finance and Supply who are always on ground to attend to people in need.
They moved swiftly, assisting individuals with applications for assistance, and offering guidance on local government issues. The ministry had clearly redefined its role, focusing on grassroots development and ensuring no one was left behind.
One of the most striking scenes was the efficiency with which issues were handled. “We believe in people-centered governance,” said Alh. Umar Aji Suleiman, the Permanent Secretary. “Our mission is to empower communities and ensure that every citizen has access to the resources they need to thrive.”
Among the crowd was Garba Umar, a stakeholder from Potiskum. “My file has scaled through. I feel optimistic about my payment anytime from now.”
Another visitor, an elderly man, Mal Mahmuda Usman, came to seek financial assistance for his health issues. “They treated me with respect and care. I didn’t think anyone cared about people like me.”
The Ministry has also ensured transparency and accountability in the management of the local government funds that has led to the execution of peope oriented projects across the 17 local government areas.
Through its commitment to inclusivity, and accountability, the Ministry for Local Government has become a model for effective governance. As the sun set, the lines of people diminished, but the stories of transformation continued to resonate.
In a time when trust in public institutions is waning, the Ministry has shown that good governance is not only possible but can also be life-changing for the people it serves.
