Gov.Buni Meets Health Workers, Traditional Rulers to Review Healthcare Delivery Services in Yobe

Determined to improve the health care delivery services in Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni today summoned stakeholders meeting with health agencies heads and traditional rulers.
Speaking at the meeting, the Governor said that “I am glad to be with you here today to carefully assess and improve on the good records we have attained in Primary Health Care Services in the state. The Primary Health Care service as we all know, is the entry point and foundation to general healthcare services which must be given the desired attention”.

“It is in realization of this fact that our administration decided to establish at least one functional Primary Healthcare facility in the 178 political wards across the state. I am happy to state that we have completed and commissioned 139 out of the proposed 178, providing quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare services to our people”.

He added that “Let me use this opportunity to most sincerely appreciate our Traditional rulers for the support and cooperation extended to the state government, and especially the continuous sensitization of the public to access and own the Primary Healthcare Centres”.

“Mention must be made of the support we have enjoyed from the Bill And Melinda Gates Foundation, The Aliko Dangote Foundation, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and AFENET among others”.
“As you are aware the Yobe State government entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Aliko Dangote Foundation, and UNICEF in August 2021 to further strengthen integrated Primary Healthcare services in our dear state”.

“I wish to assure you that we remain committed to the MoU and beyond. We will continue to do our very best to ensure sustained support for the improvement of Primary Healthcare services in the state”.

“Our collective commitments have increased the accessibility of healthcare services to the citizenry, and especially mothers and children whom you have continuously mobilized to take advantage of the health facilities provided by the government and the support from our development partners”.

“There is no doubt that these combined efforts have contributed tremendously to the gross reduction in the rate of maternal and child mortality in the state”.
“It is also gladdening that the Modern Maternity and Child Care Complex is fully equipped to further support our efforts in checking the menace of maternal and child mortality and morbidity in the state”.

“I am pleased to state that we have in the 2024 budget allocated 15 percent of the budget to the health sector to enable us achieve the Abuja declaration, the Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and indeed the health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
“This administration has as a matter of deliberate policy institutionalized Human capital development to meet the needs of health facilities in the state to be on the same page with the Health development policy of our government”.

“It is also imperative to note that we established the Yobe State Contributory Health Care Management Agency (YSCHMA) and Yobe State Drugs and Medical Consumables Management Agency (YODMA) to address health care financing and provision of qualitative drugs and medical consumables to our people”.

“Similarly, to ensure functional, regulated healthcare service delivery and medical emergencies, we established the Yobe State Health and Health-Related Facilities Inspection and Monitoring Agency (YOHFIMA) and the Yobe State Emergency Medical Ambulance Services Agency (YEMABUS)”.

“It is equally gratifying that in our efforts to improve healthcare delivery in more communities, this administration upgraded eight Primary Healthcare Centers in Babbangida, Bara, Buni Gari, Jajimaji, Machina, Nguru, Yunusari, and Yusufari to General Hospitals”.

“We also upgraded the General Hospitals in Potiskum, Gashua, Geidam, and Buni Yadi to Specialist Hospitals, and re-equipped the State Teaching Hospital with state-of-the-art facilities providing improved services to our people and attracting patients on Medical tourism from far and near to access quality healthcare services in the state”.
“I am proud to say that our investments in the health sector over the years have greatly changed the narratives and yielding the desired results. There is no doubt that our reform policies and practical programmes have continued to improve the health status of our citizens”.

“Furthermore, I would like to use this opportunity to once again call on Your Royal Highnesses, the traditional rulers, our religious and opinion leaders to support the government by ensuring that all eligible children, pregnant mothers, and others receive the vaccination doses”.

“I wish to emphasize the commitment of the Yobe State government under my watch, will continue to accord the healthcare sector the deserved attention for a healthy population that would improve productivity and wealth creation”.
