Bomb Attacks: 7 Division holds awareness campaign on counter Improvised Explosive Device IEDs with stakeholders in Borno
By Madu Mohammed, Maiduguri.
In it’s efforts to curb the threat poised by the recent resurgence of suicide bomb attacks, the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army and Sector 1 of the Northeast Operation Hadin Kai, have organized a one day Seminar on counter Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs), awareness to stakeholders in Borno State.
The Seminar attracted participants from the military, police, Civilian JTF market and Motor parks associations, traditional and religious leaders, as well as student unions among others..
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the One Day Seminar on counter IEDs awareness workshop held at the Officers Mess of the Maimalari cantonment, Mauduguri on Friday, the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) , 7 Division Nigerian Army,, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna said “the purpose of this seminar is to create awareness on the dangers poised by the IEDs”.
The GOC said the nsurgents were terribly degraded that was why they resort to bomb attacks which is the easiest way to eliminate people as once they can’t have face to face contact with troops.
*This was necessitated by the recent happenings in Gwoza and what is happening on our major routes. Improvised Explosive Device IEDs are planted on the roads . IEDs are the most disasteros way of eliminating human being and lives in general”.
“it is important to create more awareness on the IEDs, how they looks to avoid lost of lives like what happened in Gwoza where many lives were lost. .Recently IED was also found in one school in Maiduguri So the seminar is meant to create awareness”, he added.
General Haruna said ” I call on the general public to always report any suspicious items or objects they see in their farms, homes, schools, markets and parks to the nearest military and police formations, the traditional leaders as well as religious leaders , so as to destroyed or demobilized the IEDs “
