Some notable Northern elites have applauded the formation of a new group under the aupieces ‘League of Northern Democrats’ aimed at uniting major stakeholders from the North to prosper solutions out of numerous challenges bedeviling the region.

Latest among these elites were Former Vice President Arc.Muhammad Namadi Sambo and former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Abdulrahaman Bello Dambazau (Rtd.) who viewed the formation of League of Northern Democrats (NLD) as “timely and a veritable platform to galvanize efforts at addressing the numerous challenges facing the North and the Country in general”.

For Namadi Sambo, while hosting the leadership of the League at his residence in Abuja led by its protem chairman, and former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, said that,he is  particularly impressed with the initiative and noble goals that it has set to achieve noting that the region is faced with plethora of challenges that has bedeviled our growth and development.

and health of our children and women, and these have continued to widen the net of poverty and inequality among the people of the north and indeed the entire country.

He also lamented that, Despite several efforts by government at the federal and regional levels, the challenges have remained unabated which calls  for concerted efforts by key stakeholders and non-state actors to end the menace in order to complement the efforts of governments.

commending the initiative he stated that, the timing is right and the goals of the League is both apt and strategic stressing that it is cut across political and religious lineage, which would  continue to leverage on our respective experiences and resources to play our part in order to meet the aspirations of our people while engendering sustainable peace and socio-economic development.

The former VP who identified with and fully committed to supporting the initiative, tasked the forum to “share thoughts and ideas that sharpen our collective resolve towards a secured, peaceful and developed North and Nigeria.

Dambazau in his letter titled ABD/G1/300/15 dated 03 September, ’24

Opined that the LND presents an opportunity to galvanize the efforts of our leaders and stakeholders to address the challenges and reposition the North for more prosperous future.

While appreciating the efforts and commitment of the Group towards tackling the challenges facing the region, Dambazau promised to participate in the group’s activities geared towards restoring hope and confidence in our communities to foster development in the region and country at large.
