GOV. BUNI LAUNCHES THE DISTRIBUTION OF DRY-SEASON FARMING INPUTS TO OVER 1000 BENEFICIARIES.

His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe state Hon Mai Mala Buni CON ( Chiroman Gujba) has promised to revitalized Agricultural sector in the state to boost the food production. This was contained in a speech by the Governor while launching the distribution of farming inputs to more than 1,000 beneficiaries drawn across the 17 Local Government areas of the state,on Saturday 9th March 2024.
The Governor performed the distribution at the IBB state secretaiat premises Damaturu. He reiterated the fact that Yobe is a state with unfavourable poverty indices exacerbated by over a decade of insurgency adding that the post recovery efforts, are being challenged by high inflation rates, consequences of subsidy withdrawal, high cost of foodstuffs, hoarding and smuggling of foodstuffs etc.
The Governor further contended that the distribution is coming at a better time so as to enable farmers prepare adequately for this year’s rainy season in the state.
The Governor was represented by his Deputy His Excellency Hon Idi Barde Gubana ( Wazirin Fune) who Commended the North East Development Commission for extending full support to the farmers in the state.
He further explained that the dry- season farming inputs support will go a long way in providing food in the state and the nation at large.
The Governor noted that in 2023 government launches the distribution of 1,900 irrigation watet pumps and accessories, 125 commercial pick- up tricycles and 125 commercial tricycles or Keke NAPEP in addition to empowering 500 hundred youths from rural communities with skills acquisition materials such as sewing machines, barbing saloon kits among others.
He advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the inputs effectively, to ensure that they produce more at the end of the season and provide their communities with enough food.
Highlights of the occasion was the symbolic presentation to some of the beneficiaries.
Earlier in his welcome address the caretaker committee chairman Damaturu local government area Hon Bukar Adamu, applauded the effort of the North East Development Commission for providing the inputs to agricultural sector.
The Managing Director and Chief executive officer North East Development Commission NEDC Mohammad G Alkali, represented by the state coordinator prof Ibrahim Ali Abbas said the idea is to support the genius farmers in the state because agriculture has potentials of creating more wealth and job opportunities to unemployed youths.
opProf Abbas highlighted some of the achievements of NEDC recorded so far in the state, which includes construction of mega schools, health facilities,houses, provision of learning material and distribution of foodstuffs as palliative to vulnerable and less privilege.
He Commended the state government for all the support and encouragement giving to him,
The commissioner. Of Wealth creation empowerment and employment generation Hon Aji Yerima Bularafa Malterab of Gujba said that the support will encourage farmers to use the farming inputs and improve their farming activities.
Bularafa caution the beneficiaries to desist from selling the empowerment materials as government would not cordone such behavior.
Over 1000 farmers benefited from the support. It was further announced that more support is reaching the state in terms of boosting Agriculture in the country.
