Weekend Review of Saturday’s Daily Hint News: Gov. Buni Awards Scholarships To 221 Law Students
In line with his relentless commitments to providing means of education to the Yobeans, the State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON, on Tuesday, 16 January 2024 offered N90.423,000 Million in scholarships to 221 state law graduates attending Nigerian law schools across the various campuses in the country.
While presenting the award cheque at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Damaturu, the Governor reassured the law students that the present administration in the state will continue to be consistent in awarding scholarships to qualified Yobe indigenes in tertiary institutions both at home and in foreign institutions across the world.
During the Weekend Review, Daily Hint gathered that the Governor has also approved the sum of N708,158,208.77 for payment of retirement benefits to 461 retirees across the state.
The approval was granted following the successful screening of the third batch of pensioners in the 17 local government councils of the state.
The payment would be made directly to the retirees while the next of kin of those deceased would be paid on behalf of the deceased persons.
The payment would no doubt support the livelihood of the retirees, especially for a retirement life.
Additionally, he strictly engaged with the World Bank delegation, who paid him a working visit.
The Governor appealed to the delegation of the World Bank to minimise administrative bottlenecks in its support of the recovery programmes of the state in resettling communities devastated by the insurgency.
“The longer it takes to channel the support the more it is badly affected by inflation because, if you plan to execute a particular project or programme and you cost it on an existing rate, if it is not done in time, it will certainly be affected by inflation on prices of raw materials for the project,” he said.
