YOBE TO PARTNER FG, EUROPEAN UNION TO PREVENT OCCURRENCE OF INSURGENCY IN NORTH-EAST.

His Excellency the Executive Governor of Yobe state Hon Mai Mala Buni CON (Chiroman Gujba) has assured that there will be a strong collaboration with federal government and European union for immediate and sustainable solution against recurrence of insurgency and related conflicts in the north East region.

The governor gave the assurance on Thursday when he recieved members of projects consortium led by the representative of International organization for migrations (IOM,) Mr Ruben on a courtesy call at the government house Damaturu.

The Governor was represented by his Deputy His Excellency Hon Idi Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune) who noted that the role of the developing partners in the quest for a better and crisis – free Yobe would go along way in fortifying the socio- economic status and further brighten the chance of attracting domestic and foreign investors.

He further explained that government is putting all the necessary machineries to create a conducive atmosphere for all kinds of businesses in the state.

He further pointed out that the insurgents and bandits who lay their arms and embrace peace would be given the chance to be active and productive in the society once again.

In his remarks, the chief mission Mr Lauren de Bock informed the Governor that they were in the state to introduce members of the Project consortium comprising of European union, international organization for migrations( IOM) United Nations office on drugs and crime (UNODC) united nations for development programme (UNDP) and United Nations children’s fund ( UNICEF)

The project is aimed at ensuring that reconciliation and reintegration effort to contribute to readdressing the drivers of the conflict.

Also speaking, the representative of the National security adviser Mohammad Auwal Amin, explained that the project will be implemented by the Four (4) UN consortium, IOM, UNICEF, UNDP and UNODC. the UNODC is new in enterance in to the project to handle criminal justice component of the report.

Mr Ruben and Juliana Butamat of EU and IOM appreciate the support and cooperation given to European union for reconciliation and reintegration of former non – state armed groups in the north East.

Juliana called for enhanced support to address the urgent need of ex- combatants in the north East.

The representatives of UNDP Baba Goni Mohammad., UNICEF Aisha Kolo lawan and National youths Diaspora Mohammad Bashir pleaged to continue support in the process of projects consortium.

The executive secretary State emergency management agency SEMA, Dr Mohammad Goje reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration in that direction.

He further explained, that kidnapping and abduction of women has been a prominent feature of the insurgency. He pointed out of recent, SEMA has successfully integrated a rescued girl who while in captivity was married to three different commanders of Boko insurgents.
