Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged to fully implement the recommendations of the Committee of Inquiry on the End Bad Governance Protest, which led to the loss of 10 lives and destruction of property worth over N11 billion.
The governor made the commitment on Tuesday while receiving the report from the committee’s chairman, Justice Lawan Wada (rtd.), during the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting at Government House.
A statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed that in addition to the 10 deaths, seven other individuals sustained critical injuries during the violent protest, which occurred on August 1, 2024.
Governor Yusuf announced that a white paper would be issued to identify those responsible for sponsoring and executing the violence. He assured the public that his administration would take decisive action to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
“I have confidence in the integrity and professionalism of the committee members. They were selected based on merit, and I am optimistic that they have done their job without bias,” the governor said.
He emphasized that his administration did not interfere with the committee’s six-month-long investigation, allowing it full autonomy to carry out its work diligently.
The chairman of the committee, Justice Wada, stated that the panel visited all affected areas and engaged with relevant stakeholders to compile a comprehensive account of the protest’s impact.
Governor Yusuf commended the committee for its efforts and urged its members to be prepared for future assignments if needed.
The governor’s commitment to implementing the report’s findings signals a decisive step toward justice and accountability in Kano State.
