150,000 vulnerable people to benefit from third tranche of ASWA lll project in Adamawa

UNICEF in partnership with Government of the Netherlands and the Adamawa state government has launched the third phase of Acceleration Sanitation and Water for All (ASWA III) in the state.

Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon Audu Ayuba made the disclosure at a joint press briefing with Unicef Bauchi field office in Yola Thursday stressing that the extension of the ASWA initiative was a welcome development which is in line with the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s 8 points agenda.

Ayuba expressed gratitude to the development partners for selecting  Adamawa among the benefiting states describing such interventions as a people oriented due to their multiple benefits to humanity.

In her further elaboration on the ASWA projects l & ll, Head of Sanitation hygiene and RUWASSA in the Ministry, Aisha Yusuf said 133 Communities were positively impacted in Guyuk and Shelleng local government areas in sanitation initiatives while 84 water projects were recorded.

Yusuf added that schools and health facilities received interventions in the two local government areas while 729 adolescent girls were trained in sanitation and menstrual hygiene as well.

She announced that in the ASWA third phase,150,000 vulnerable people are being targeted by adopting public, private partnership (PPP) in Shelleng and Ganye councils in the state.

Earlier in her remarks the Chief of field office, Unicef Bauchi, Nuzhat Rafique said that Adamawa state has been fulfilling its requirements in all interventions offered by development partners especially Unicef.

Rafique maintained that the project will impact vulnerable people especially the children and their families in various communities calling for sustainability at the expiration of the grant meant for such project in the next four years.

Rafique said that WASH is the pillar of civilization,pillar of humanity and pillar of good communities adding that access to sanitation is critical to the well being of human being.

She stated that sanitation is highest priority as Unicef was able to stop open defecation in two local council namely in Jada and Guyuk pledging to replicate same in two more local government areas of Shelleng and Ganye in this third phase of ASWA
