2024: Gombe Governor Pardons 39 Inmates, Announces New Palliative Measures
By Yunusa Isa, Gombe
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has pardoned 39 inmates serving in various custodial centres across the state.
The governor made this known during a new year statewide live broadcast to people of the state, via radio stations and social media handles.
He said 26 out of the 39 inmates were released unconditionally, while terms for the remaining 13 were slashed to shorter periods.
He said the decision was taken in spirit of the new year, as recommended by the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.
The governor hoped that the beneficiaries will turn a new leaf and embrace the opportunity for a fresh start and become good ambassadors in the society.
On the other hand, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said in view of the current economic hardships, occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy in the country, his administration will on Tuesday (2nd January, 2024) launch another batch of palliative to further cushion the effects of the economic meltdown on the less privileged households.
He said in the new palliative measure, more than 90,000 people are expected to benefit from the assorted food items to be distributed across the state.
The governor while wishing people of the state and Nigeria a happy new year, charged them to be more committed, prayerful and supportive to constituted authorities to collectively achieve a common goal of a better society.
Governor Yahaya assured of his administration’s continuous commitments to providing more dividends of democracy to better the lives of the citizenry.
He appreciated God Almighty for the health and life to witness the new year, expressing optimism that 2024 will be peaceful and prosperous to Gombe People and Nigerians.
