2026 budget: Borno holds Town Hall meeting to collect imputs

As part of inclusive government, the Borno state government has organized a Town Hall meeting to gather input for the 2026 budget.

Speaking at the Town meeting which held at the Musa Usman secretariat, Maiduguri, Governor Babagana Zulum said the Town hall meeting is not just gathering of people in government but the representatives of various groups in the society with a view to shapen the future of the state.

Represented by the Secretary to the state Government (SSG), Hon Abubakar Tijjani, Governor Zulum said “This town Hall meeting is therefore, an interactive, inclusive and a share commitment of the people of Borno state to move from recovery to self reliant society inline with my 25 years Development Plan and 10 strategic plan”.

“Equally, we can no longer depend on humanitarian assistance, or fluctuating Federal Allocation for sustainable development, As we deliberate, I therefore urged you to feel free to contribute meaningfully toward the cause of sharpening our future”, Zulum said

Zulum said “I give you the assurance, that as you make your contributions, your voice will not only be heard but be translated into budget that will shape the history of our dear state”.

“This is the 6th budget of this administration, we have championed projects that has touched the lives of our people and our efforts have not only be applauded within the state but across the nation and the globe”, he added.

Also speaking, the Borno state Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Dr Babagana Mustapha said ” there is strategic shift in 2026 budget from the recovery to self reliant and prosperity, hence this Budget is tagged budget ” budget of recovery to security accelerated growth and building a self reliant Borno”.

“The Town Hall meeting is a platform for citizens, to interact, criss fertilize ideas and inclusion in not only the budget but act of governance with a view to change their lives positively”, ” the commissioner said.

In his submission, the Chairman Appropriation, Borno state House of Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Mustapha assured the people of Borno that the House will always scrutinize the budget with a view to give accelerated passage for the people oriented projects and programs.

Also, the state Commissioner for Finance,, Alh Lawan Dalorima, said “the Town Hall meeting shows the commitment of Governor Babagana Zulum towards people inclusive governance through their imputs in the budget of the state and I assure that every single budget allocated will be religiously and prudently followed and implemented.”

In his remarks, the Special Adviser, Budget, Alhaji Mustapha Dallatu commended the ministry for organizing the Town Hall meeting, which he described ” as apt and timely”.

In his welcome address, the permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Planning, Mr Peter Solomon, said ” Today marks a milestone in the history of Borno state where it’s citizens gathered here to have a say in the imputs of the budget of the state but contribute actively in the budget process.
