2027 : EYN church rejects call to sack INEC chair, vows not to align with any party.

The Church of Brethren in Nigeria known as ‘Ekklesiyar ‘Yan’uwa A Nigeria’ (EYN) has rejected calls by critics for the sack of the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Professor Joash Amupitan.
It(church) urged president Bola Tinubu to ignore such unwarranted act which are nothing more than set back to the system.
Recall that, there were calls on the president BAT to sack, the INEC chair, Prof.Amupitan by a section of Nigerians including the president of Shariah counci l due to some uncharitable comments alleged to have been said by Amupitan in the past before his appointment.

Mbaya announced the position of the church at the ongoing 79th General Church Council (GCC) Majalisa 2026 programs at the EYN headquarters, Kwar hi, in Hong local government area of Adamawa state.
Rev. Mbaya while delivering his speech at the occasion on Wednesday said that the church and the christian community frown at such careless statement from supposed religious leaders noting that it only connotes “politicization of religion, an attack on the Nigerian constitution which is a sad development for the country”.
“When Attahiru Jega was the chairman of INEC, the christians never raise an eyebrow,he was succeeded by Prof Yakubu Mahmud, christians said nothing,now a Christian is appointed,they are talking, the president should rather call them to order”. Mbaya insisted.
On the forthcoming 2027 General polls, President Mbaya encourage members of the church to aspire for posts of choices in various political parties declaring that, the church will not align with any political party but will support credible candidates.
“Uncomfortable with some of the policies put in place,then we have to get involved.To address these,we need to be involved and clean the dirty things in politics.
“As a church,we will not align with any political party,we shall support only credible candidates taking in to cognizance fair representation”. Mbaya declared.
In his goodwill message, the Archbishop of LCCN, Most Rev.Musa Panti Filibus applauded the EYC Church for its formidable and professional strategies in propagation of the Christianity and promotion of peace among humanity.
Rev.Filibus congratulated the church for attaining 103 anniversary charging the newly ordained clergymen (pastors) to be pious and truthful in their assignment as he also cautioned them to avoid any action or inaction that can trigger chaos in the society.

Earlier the General Secretary of the EYN, Rev.James K. Musa said that the theme of this year’s national conference titled “Peace Church in prevailing storm” has summed it up that last year 2025 was a challenging one for the church especially with the continued attacks by the Boko Haram terrorists destroying facilities of the church and killing of its members especially in the North Eastern states.
Rev.Musa in the year under review (2025), seventy (70) local EYN churches were displaced,over 20,000 widows and 130,000 orphans were recorded as a result of killing of their bread winners by suspected activities of the insurgents.
