In a fierce midnight shootout, the calm city of Osogbo was thrown into chaos as a group of armed robbers clashed with a formidable coalition of security forces, including Amotekun, the Police Anti-Cultism Squads, and local hunters.

The fierce exchange of gunfire unfolded at the Dangote Integrated Steel Rolling Mills, where the criminals sought to carry out a daring robbery.

The incident was initiated by a distress call from the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the company, who reported the intrusion.

Responding swiftly, the Amotekun Anti-Cultism Squad, in collaboration with the Police Anti-Cultism Unit and local hunters, mobilized to the scene. As they approached, the armed robbers, refusing to back down, opened fire on the security personnel, sparking a intense and dangerous gun battle.

Amid the chaos, the joint operation managed to apprehend five of the suspected armed robbers, all of whom sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation. Tragically, three of the robbers met their demise on the spot, succumbing to injuries sustained in the exchange of gunfire.

The bodies of the deceased perpetrators were transported to Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

The five arrested suspects were identified as Adepoju Abdulateef (18 years), Rasheed Hammed (20 years), Liadi Afeez (20 years), Wasiu Sodiq (21 years), and Rabiu Lekan (28 years), all hailing from Oke-Baale, Osogbo. The recovered exhibits from the suspects included a single barrel with four expended shells and an Itel phone.

Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi, the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, commended the collaborative efforts of the security forces and hunters in swiftly responding to the distress call.

He highlighted the successful outcome of their coordinated operation, ensuring the protection of lives and property in the face of a significant security threat.

The injured suspects are currently receiving medical attention, and their condition will be monitored closely.

The incident stands as a testament to the effectiveness of joint security operations in maintaining public safety and curbing criminal activities within the community.
