Adamawa: Stakeholders make case for  participation of women in governance.

Political parties have been urged to as a matter of utmost importance make women participation in governance a top priority in Adamawa state.

Critical stakeholders made the position public as part of the resolutions reached at a one day sensitization workshop for  women politicians organized by a  non governmental organization,NGO. Garga Foundation in Conjunction with International Foundation for Electoral System(IFES) hammering on the roles of womenfolk in our communities.

During the training workshop held in Yola Wednesday the stakeholders observed that the women participation in governance is least to be desired calling on those in position of authority to ensure women are allow to be elected chairmen or vice chairmen of a local government councils.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Mobilisation officer of Garga Foundation, Aminu Adamu said that aim and objective of the training was to ensure full women participation in politics and governance especially at the forthcoming local government polls in the state.

Adamu explained that the Organization invited  twenty (20) women politicians and brainstormed on workable plan and timelines to be implemented to change the ugly narrative decrying that,socio economic aspect ,religious and traditional factors hinders women participation in politics.

He stated that the forthcoming local polls in the state will be a litmus test paper for the experiments to be adopted in addressing the current challenge of women participation such as advocacy to other partners and  rising awareness for action.

A participant at the training,Kaltume Mohammad expressed gratitude to the organisers confessing that the meeting has broaden her knowledge on the real roles for womenfolk.

Mohammad reiterated the commitment of womenfolk to contributing in building a better and prosperous society for the good of all.
