Yobe Govt Refutes Circulating Post on New Minimum Wage Approval, Says it’s Fake News
By Yusuf Ali
Yobe State Government has refuted the circulating post on social media alleging approval of a new minimum wage as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by the Director General Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mal Mamman Mohammed on Thursday, described the post as false and irresponsible, pre-emptive and misleading.
He said that the Daily Trust Newspaper has also disowned the content, saying the logo used on the online post is not its logo, and the story could not be found on its website.
The statement reads:
“The attention of Yobe state government has been drawn to a false and misleading post on the social media alleging approval of a new minimum wage.
“The government of Yobe state has not issued any statement with regard to the minimum wage as it is still working on it, and would provide a statement on this, as soon as it is completed.
“It is therefore grossly irresponsible, pre-emptive and misleading for anyone to unofficially speak, or post any statement for, or on behalf of the state government.
“The post failed to provide details nor indicate when and where the statement emanated, making the content professionally discredited.
“Similarly, Daily Trust newspaper has disowned the content, saying the logo used on the online post is not its logo, and the story could not be found on its website.
“The public is therefore, advised to disregard the mischievous and misleading post, as you will be furnished with the official and credible statement from the government.
