Maiduguri Disaster: Tragedies, Tears And Tribulations, by Gaji Ahmed

Since 2009 When The Dreaded Boko Haram Insurgency Erupted In The Ancient City Of Maiduguri, We Do Not Know Peace In Our Dear State. Several Calamities Had Befallen Our Dear State, The Insurgency Led To The Displacement Of Millions Of People And The Massacre Of Tens Of Thousands.

In fact, Despite The Efforts Of Government To Curb The Menace, Boko Haram Still Perpetrates Heinous Crime Against Humanity, Kidnapping And Assassination Of Farmers, Travellers And Other Innocent Law Abiding Citizens Across The State.

Last Week, Boko Haram Terrorists Brutally Massacred Over 80 People In Mafa Village Of Tarmuwa In Yobe State And So On And So Forth. Today, The 10th Of September, 2024 Another Huge Tragedy Struck Out Our Beloved State, A Massive Flood Disaster That Has Never Been Experienced Before Led To The Displacement, Destruction And Devastation Of The Good People Of Maiduguri.

The Last Time We Experienced Such A Flood Disaster Was Exactly 30 Years Ago, 13 September, 1994. I Could Vividly Remember The Havoc It Has Caused, Cos I Was In SS 1, In Fact, It Was Deadly And Had Led To The Death Of Several People And Destruction Of Several Houses. Sadly, In Comparison To Today’s Flood, 1994’s Disaster Was But A Child’s Play.

I Have Never Seen A Water Flooding In Such A Turbulent Manner Throughout My Life, It’s In Fact, Tragic, Pathetic And Painful. Experts Have Predicted The Flood, But My Question Is That What Has Government Put In Place Before The Incidence? Your Guess Is Good As Mine.

As Far As I’m Concerned, Both Federal And The State Governments Haven’t Put Anything Tangible On Ground To Tackle The Scourge In Case Of The Break Out Of The Disaster.

Any way i don’t Want To Be Critic For Now, The Most Important Thing To Do Immediately Is Assistance, This Is Because Thousands Of People Have Lost Their Houses, Businesses And In Fact So Many Valuables.

In Maiduguri, Major Business Hubs Were Affected, For Instance; Zara Plaza Along Lagos Street, Part Of Monday Market, Custom Market, Moromoro Vegetable Market, Kasuwan Shanu Abbatoir And So Many Other Places Where Hundreds Of Millions Of Naira Worth Properties Were Destroyed By The Flood.

In Gwange, Shehuri, State Low-cost, Gidan Dambe, Kaliari, Lagos Street, Budum, Gamboru, Fori, Galtimari And So Many Other Areas, Hundreds Of Buildings Have Collapsed.

Looking At These Fatalities, Government At All Levels Should Urgently Come To The Rescue Of Our Beloved State Which Has Already Been Ravaged By Insurgency And The Current Economic Hardship In The Country.

I’m Also Calling On NGOs In The State Too Urgently Come To The Aid Of Our Dear State And Maiduguri Because We Are In Deep Sorrow, Shock And Severe Depression. May God Make Our Dear State To Come Out Stronger From These Tragedies, Tears And Tribulations. Amen.
