BOSG Gives 2 Weeks Ultimatum To Flood Victims To Vacate Camps, For Schools To Resume

The Borno state government has given 23rd , September, 2024 dateline for flood victims to vacate the camps and return back to their houses to enable government reopen schools.
Addressing the journalists at a press briefing which held at the Borno Flood Disaster Situation Room Maiduguri, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar said the closure of the 33 official camps on 23rd September, 2024 is to enable government reopen school not disrupt school calender .
“The situation room is aimed at provide up to date information on the situation of the flood disaster”, the Commissioner added
It could be recalled that Governor Babagana Zulum during several fora said all camp should be close in 2 weeks, as he don’t want the camps to prolong.
Professor Tar said the Borno state government has established 33 camps for the management of flood victims with population of 600,000, stressing that the situation also had a dashboard that show number of the camps, the health issues, stakeholders and number of facilities at each camp..
“The Borno state government has taken decision that the camp shouldn’t stay long than 2 weeks because at that time it is expected that the flood has been receeded and people are expected to go back to their houses”
He said government has since commenced fumigation of houses, schools, hospitals, roads, streets and other public buildings to enable the IDP return back home, adding that those who’s houses were destroyed will be provided with temporary shelter before the necessary data are collected and cash support given to them to rebuild their houses.
“Already, government has distributed 25 kg of rice, 1 carton of superghetti, 1 galoon of 5 litres of cooking oil and N10,000 cash to both female and male households. 60 percent of the flood victims have already been given the above intervention to enable them go back to their houses “, he added.
The Commissioner said thatthey also created public service to dish out information, enlightenment campaigns and sensitize people on the health dangers, other issues related to the flood , as well as situation ..
