Customs made seizures from smuggling activities worth N71.7Million in Adamawa.

The Adamawa/Taraba Area Customs Command has seized petroleum motor spirit, PMS products worth N71,760,930 attempted to be snuggled to neighboring Republic of Cameroon.

Area Comptroller of Customs in charge of the command, Comptroller Garba Bashir Bature disclosed the development at a press conference in Yola Thursday stressing that the Command’s enforcement unit had witnessed significant seizures from the month of August and September 2024.

Bature stated that items seized included;1,115 Jerry cans of 25 litres capacity each,26 drums of 220 litres capacity each filled with PMS totally 33,595 litres intended to be snuggled in to the Republic of Cameroon..

Bature said other items seized were; 200 bags of foreign flour,50Kg each,57 bags of foreign parboiled rice,50Kg each,10 bales of second-hand clothing with 3 vehicles used as means of conveyance of some seized PMS.

He declared that the seizures are clear testaments to the unrelenting and uncompromising efforts of operatives attached to his command explaining that the products showcased before the media were apprehended from various borderlines in Adamawa and Taraba states which be auctioned off to the interested members of the public.

He added that actions taken are in accordance to the Nigeria Customs service Act 2023 and the standard operating procedures as the proceeds will be remitted in to the federation account forthwith.

Comptroller Bature therefore charged his men and officers to be vigilant and fully committed to the ongoing fight against all forms of smuggling activities within the confines of the law.

He also advised the smugglers to forsake economic sabotage and all forms of illegal trans-border trade and genuinely embrace legitimate business as his command will maintain momentum until smuggling activities are brought to its knees.
