TCN Restores Power Flow on Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV Line 2, Boosting Supply in Northern Nigeria

By Beli Abubakar Nasiru

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced today that it has successfully re-energized the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV transmission Line 2.

According to a statement released by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, this achievement took place on November 14, 2024, at approximately 11:50 a.m., following the completion of repairs and re-stringing of damaged sections.

With Line 2 now operational, TCN reported that the Apir and Jos Transmission Substations have already begun to draw power, allowing distribution companies in Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola to increase supply for onward distribution to customers in their respective areas.

This restoration marks the final phase in addressing the power disruption caused by vandalism on October 21, 2024, when both the Ugwuaji-Apir 330kV Line 1 and Line 2 were damaged. TCN had previously restored Line 1 on October 30, 2024, bringing partial relief to affected areas. Now, with both lines fully restored, TCN expects a substantial improvement in electricity supply across the North East and North West regions.

In the statement, Mbah extended that the company also expressed appreciation for “the patience and understanding of electricity customers in the northern axis who were affected by the incident.”
