Gov. Buni Host Swiss Delegation, Partners For Long-term Solution

Governor Mai Mala Buni, welcomed the high-level delegation from the Embassy of Switzerland, led by Mr. Nicolas Martin-Achard, First Secretary for Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation, at the Government House, Damaturu the yobe state capital.
The meeting is the reassurance of the strong partnership between the Yobe State Government and the Swiss Government in addressing challenges related to humanitarian crises, displacement, and sustainable development. Governor Buni commended Switzerland for its steadfast commitment to supporting durable solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs), highlighting its recent significant allocation of humanitarian funding support to Yobe State.
In his remarks, Buni expressed profound gratitude to the Swiss Government and its Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Nicolas Lang, for their dedication to international solidarity and humanitarian ideals. He noted that Switzerland’s funding support of approximately USD3.4 million for the 2025–2027 period will significantly bolster efforts to address displacement issues in the state.
Buni highlighted the importance of collaboration, stating that
“The Swiss Government’s extraordinary trust and partnership in supporting Yobe State demonstrates a shared commitment to impactful and sustainable solutions. My administration is resolutely committed to ensuring that these resources are utilized effectively to address critical needs”
The governor also emphasized ongoing joint efforts between the Yobe State Government and Switzerland, emphasizing that their collaboration aligns with the State Action Plan on Solutions to Internal Displacement. He assured the delegation that the state’s Security Planning and Coordination Group (SPCG) has put comprehensive measures in place to ensure a favorable environment for implementing durable solutions.
On his part, Mr. Nicolas Martin-Achard commended the leadership of Governor Buni in addressing displacement challenges and expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to transform the lives of vulnerable populations.
The meeting concluded with Governor Buni reiterating his led administration’s commitment to working closely with Switzerland and other development partners to achieve lasting peace, stability, and development in Yobe State.
This visit reflects the strengthening of international partnerships to address critical humanitarian and development challenges, towards the development and prosperity of Yobe State. The high level meeting was attended by Country Director of Save the Children International, Yobe State Coordinator SOLID Project, and representative of State Emergency Management Agency SEMA.
