This week, Yobe State has witnessed an extraordinary surge in leadership and development under the dynamic stewardship of Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni.
From impactful social engagements to groundbreaking infrastructural achievements, Governor Buni continues to cement his position as a leader who is actively shaping the future of Yobe State.
Gov. Buni Gives Out Zainab Muhammad Gadaka in Marriage to Dr. Abubakar
In a notable personal gesture, Governor Mai Mala Buni officiated the wedding of Pharmacist Zainab Muhammad Gadaka to Dr. Muhammad Abubakar in Maiduguri. Zainab, the daughter of Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, the Yobe State APC Chairman, was joyfully given away in marriage by the Governor, who stood in for her father. The event, which was attended by high-profile dignitaries including the Borno State Deputy Governor, Umar Usman Kadafur, and others, marked a moment of celebration and unity within the community.
The wedding Fatiha was presided over by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari. The groom, Dr. Abubakar, paid a dowry of One Million Naira, which was graciously received by Governor Buni. Prayers were offered for the couple’s long and successful marriage.
Gov. Buni Marries Out Maryam Amshi to Ibrahim Abubakar
Governor Mai Mala Buni also presided over the marriage of Maryam Ahmad Amshi, daughter of Engr. Ahmad Amshi, Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, to Ibrahim Abubakar. Held at the Yobe Mosque and Islamic Center in Damaturu, the ceremony attracted top political figures such as the President of the Ninth Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Idi Barde Gubana. The Governor, once again standing in for the father, confirmed a dowry of N250,000 for the bride.
The wedding was marked by prayers for a blissful life for the newlyweds and serves as another example of the Governor’s involvement in both the social and religious fabric of the state.
Gov. Buni Bags Prestigious Awards: SARDAUNAN Fune & SONA Recognition
This week was also marked by significant honours for Governor Buni, solidifying his position as a regional and international leader in development. In a prestigious ceremony, the Fune Emirate Council under the leadership of Deputy Governor Hon. Idi Barde Gubana appointed Governor Buni as the SARDAUNAN Fune, a title that reflects his commitment to the people of the region.
Governor Buni expressed gratitude for the honour and pledged to uphold the values of peace and unity within Fune Emirate, urging the community to continue their efforts to live harmoniously.
In addition to the local recognition, Governor Buni was also honoured by the Society of Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA) for his contributions to science, research, and innovation. Governor Buni, represented by his Special Adviser on Science, Research, and Innovation, Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina, was inducted into the SONA Hall of Fame and granted Honourary Membership. This recognition was in part due to the Governor’s visionary efforts in supporting biomedical research, particularly his commitment to addressing kidney disease through state-funded research projects.
Gov. Buni’s Commitment to Agriculture: Empowering Farmers for the 2025 Cropping Season
Governor Buni’s focus on Yobe’s agricultural sector continues to grow stronger. This week, the Governor urged the people of Yobe to fully leverage the government’s support for agriculture, especially during the 2025 cropping season. Speaking at the distribution of 30,000 bags of rice, donated by the Dangote Foundation, Governor Buni encouraged the people to engage in agriculture for food security and economic sustainability.
He also highlighted the state’s efforts to make agricultural production more profitable by providing machinery, improved seeds, and support for youth engagement in agriculture. With the interest from international markets, Governor Buni emphasized the importance of increasing agricultural exports, especially in sesame seeds and livestock.

This week, 127 law graduates from Yobe State received scholarships for tuition fees and laptops to attend Nigeria’s prestigious law school. Governor Buni noted that over 38,000 students had benefited from the state’s scholarship programs since his administration began.
This sponsorship program, now in its fourth consecutive year, not only ensures that Yobe’s youth have access to education but also supports the future legal minds of the state, fostering the next generation of professionals.

Potiskum Market and Fika-Malori Road: Generational Hopes Realized
Governor Buni also fulfilled longstanding hopes for the people of Potiskum and Fika-Malori communities. With the ongoing construction of a modern market and the long-awaited Fika-Malori road, Governor Buni has greatly improved the transportation and commercial capacity of these regions.
