National Coordinator of the Operation Whirlwind,ACG H.K Ejibunu dropped the hint at a press conference in Yola Friday explaining that the seized items were intercepted on different dates and locations in an unapproved routes across, Dasin-fufore axis, Belel-Farang axis,Mubi-Sahuda axis,Maiha axis,Girei-Wuro Bokki axis and other parts of the state.
ACG Ajibunu said that the seized items included;1,959 of 25 litres Jerry cans filled with Petrol(PMS) equivalent to 48,975 litres of petroleum motor spirit, five (5) vehicles used for conveyance of the product meant to be smuggled to the neighboring countries especially Republic of Cameroon.
Ajibunu reiterated that the operation (Whirlwind) is geared towards energy and food security to foster economic growth in line with the core mandate of the Federal government under president Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“To key in these mandates, the operation Whirlwind had repositioned all its machineries across the area of its responsibilities and ensuring that the border become watertight which made it difficult for economic saboteurs to carry out their smuggling activities.
“I advise all illegal oil marketers and those who are intending to go into illegitimate importation and exportation to forsake the illegal trade and embrace other genuine business as the customs service,anti-smuggling crusader, will not relent in its fight against the menace.
“However, we appeal to the border community leaders and youths to continue to educate their wards on the negative effects of smuggling activities on the nation’s economy and security. We will guarantee legitimate oil marketers unimpeded operations, free from harassment and product confiscation”. The ACG maintained.
In their separate remarks at the media conference representative of the Attorney general of the federation and state coordinator of RMDPR warned unrepentant smugglers to change their ways or face the wrath of the law .
