Customs condemns attack on operatives as petroleum products worth N95.6M seized in Adamawa

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service,CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has condemned in strongest terms the recent attack on a team of custom officers attached to operation whirlwind unit in Mujara community of Mubi South local government area in Adamawa state.
Addressing a press conference in Yola Thursday CG Adeniyi expressed dismay over the unprovoked attack on the officers who were on their constitutional bit as operatives checkmating the illegal activities of the nation’s economy saboteurs.
Represented by the National Coordinator of the operation whirlwind,ACG Hussaini Ejibunu narrated that, the disturbing incident occured on Wednesday,16th July 2025 when customs operatives on official duty were ambushed by violent mob of smugglers using sticks,stones and other harmful objects.
Ejibunu added that what began as resistance to lawful enforcement escalated in to a brutal and premeditated attack regretting that officers were physically assaulted with sticks, stones, and dagger which resulted to inflicting injuries to an officer by name CA-ll Isah Mohammed.
Ejibunu warned those being used by unpatriotic citizens to obstructs officers on duty to desist from such acts forthwith noting that aggression against law enforcement personnel is a clear attempt to undermine the authority of the Nigeria Customs Service in their efforts to protect our borders.
“The service condemns this act in the strongest possible terms and reiterates it’s zero-tolerance stance toward violence and obstruction of official duty.
“Investigations are underway in collaboration with relevant security agencies to identify and bring all perpetrators to justice.We call on community leaders, traditional rulers and the public to support law enforcement activities by providing timely intelligence and standing against these wicked acts and criminalities”. Ejibunu stressed.
On the seizure of petroleum products, the ACG announced that within the last six weeks,the operation whirlwind has intercepted a total of 2,276 jerricans with 25 litters each of premium motor spirit (PMS) and 19 jerricans volume of 69,375 litres at various notorious snuggling flashpoints in Adamawa state.
According to him,the products were intercepted in border communities including Malabu-Belel axis,Girei-Wuro-Bokki axis,Gurin-Fufore axis,Jamtari axis,Maiha axis, Jimeta waterside and Mubi-Sahuda axis respectively.
He declared that the duty paid value (DPV) of the seized products and conveying vehicles is to the tune of N95,695,000 which were diverted through authorized channels for selfish reasons.
“These petroleum products carefully concealed and being prepared for illegal export or distribution to neighboring country were intercepted along with 2 vehicles being used as means of conveyance”. Ejibunu highlighted.
