Empowering Petty Traders and Farmers: Hon. Babagana Ajari’s Bold Economic Intervention in Dara al-Jamal
By Stalinus Bella
In a decisive move to uplift rural livelihoods and strengthen grassroots economies, Hon. Baba Gana Ajari has empowered more than 120 petty traders and farmers in Dara al-Jamal.
The initiative, which combined direct financial support for small-scale businesses with critical agricultural interventions, has been hailed as a turning point for the community.
At the core of the program was the provision of essential farming equipment, including the donation of brand-new tractors to enhance mechanized agriculture and boost productivity across farmlands.
The traders, meanwhile, received targeted support to expand and stabilize their small enterprises—an intervention many described as “unprecedented” in Dara al-Jamal.
Speaking during the distribution, the delegation has reaffirmed his belief in agriculture and small business as the twin engines of economic growth, echoing the philosophy consistently championed by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.
“When we empower farmers and traders, we are not only investing in individuals but in the future prosperity of the entire community,” Hon. Ajari stated.
“Economic empowerment at the grassroots level is the most sustainable path to development.”
The beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude, noting that the initiative was the first of its kind in the area. For many, the intervention signals a new era of opportunity and signifies Hon. Ajari’s enduring commitment to inclusive development and poverty alleviation.
Observers have also lauded the gesture as a model for rural economic empowerment, highlighting its potential to transform livelihoods and inspire similar initiatives across Borno State.
