Yobe Govt Launches Measles Rubella, Polio others in Integrated Vaccination Campaign

The Yobe State Government, under the leadership of Executive Governor Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has launched a crucial health initiative aimed at protecting children and adolescents from vaccine-preventable diseases. The Measles Rubella Integrated Campaign was flagged off today 17th October 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Damaturu.

The campaign aims to immunize children against measles and rubella, strengthen defense against polio virus resurgence, and introduce the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.

The initiative is supported by key partners, including the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), AFENET, UNICEF, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), SOLINA, CHAI, CGPP, Sultan and CHIGARI Foundation, and other prominent health organizations.

The Governor was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, MNI, who delivered the flag-off speech and flagged off the campaign.

The Executive Chairman of Damaturu Local Government, who also doubles as the Algon chairman, gave the welcoming remarks.

The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II ibn Umar Alkanemi, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs were also present at the flag-off.

The Hon Commissioner of Health and Human Services Dr. Muhammad Lawan Gana welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of the campaign.

The Executive Secretary, Yobe State Primary Healthcare Board Dr. Babagana Kundi Machina expressed gratitude to partners and stakeholders, emphasizing the significance of collective efforts in achieving health goals.

Representatives from partner organizations delivered goodwill messages, reaffirming their commitment to improving healthcare in Yobe State.

The Measles Rubella Integrated Campaign is a vital step towards strengthening primary healthcare delivery and safeguarding the health of children and adolescents in Yobe State. By immunizing vulnerable populations, the state government aims to reduce the incidence of vaccine-preventable diseases and promote a healthier future for its citizens.
