Adamawa Govt imposes 24 hour curfew on Lamurde LG over communal clash

The Adamawa state government has imposed a dush to dawn curfew in Lamurde local government area and its environs due to renewed communal clash in the area.
A statement issued by the office of the Deputy Governor indicated that, the 24 hour curfew takes immediate effect as all residents are ordered to adhere to the directive or face the wrath of the law.
In the statement signed by the press secretary of the Deputy Governor,Mallam Hussaini Hammangabdo and made available to the media Monday in Yola stated that, the curfew followed a renewed communal clash which resurfaced Sunday evening in the area
“Already, security agencies have been directed to restore law and order in the local government area with an immediate effect as the Government is appealing for peace calm in the area”. The statement emphasized.
It could be recall that the communal clash has been as a result of lingering farmland dispute between Bachama and Tsoho (Chobo) communities which began as a quarrel among the youths in July but snowballed to confrontational claiming 13 lives, displacing hundreds in both communities with properties worth millions destroyed.
Several Peace truces have been signed by the rivalry communities at the instance of the state government but the situation continues to be fragile due the Agricultural impact of the disputed farmlands which both are claiming to be an inheritance from their forefathers.
Similarly the Adamawa state police Command has announced deployment of its operational manpower and assets in enforcing the twenty four hours curfew declared by the government to ensure law and order in the disputing areas of the Council (Lamurde).
In a press release signed and issued by the Spokesman of the Command, S.P Suleiman Nguroje in Yola Monday directing members of the public particularly those within Lamurde LGA, to respectfully comply with such order and stay indoors in order to prevent further break down of law and order.
“Following a renewed communal clash in Lamurde LGA and the declaration of 24-hour Curfew by the state government over the violent attacks and breach of peace within some communities in Lamurde local government area.
“The Commissioner of police CP Dankombo Morris has deployed more operational assets of the command to the areas, to monitor compliance and enforce the curfew using all legal means.
“The command in collaboration with sister security agencies while respecting the rights of the citizens equally enjoy them to avoid all forms of action capable of threatening the security in the area.
“However, the Command will not in any where allow miscreants and misguided elements to operate unchallenged, despite security agents operates in such a way of not using force to create scenario that will lead to lost of live while enforcing the curfew”. The release warned
