Imo @50: Uzodimma marks golden jubilee with thanksgiving service
By Hussaini Ibrahim
OWERRI — Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Sunday officially launched activities marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of Imo State, beginning with an interdenominational thanksgiving service at Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square (RANKS), Owerri.
In a statement obtained by Daily Hint, Uzodimma described the event as a symbolic and reflective opening of the golden jubilee celebrations, emphasizing gratitude to God for sustaining the state over five decades.
“The occasion was deliberately chosen as a meaningful moment to pause, give thanks, and reflect on God’s enduring hand in the affairs of Imo State over the past fifty years,” the governor said.
He commended the Church for its steadfast prayers, particularly during challenging periods, and encouraged citizens to actively participate in anniversary activities while embracing unity, collective responsibility, and peace.
“Opening the anniversary celebrations with collective thanksgiving highlights the importance of acknowledging God first, in recognition of His sustaining grace and the gift of life bestowed upon the people of the state,” Uzodimma added.
The governor urged residents to see the golden jubilee not only as a celebration of history but also as a call to sustain values that promote a peaceful, prosperous, and cohesive society.
Daily Hint reports that the opening event brought together government officials, religious leaders, and members of the public, setting a tone of gratitude, reflection, and forward-looking optimism for the year-long commemorations.
Uzodimma concluded by reaffirming his commitment to ensuring that Imo State continues to thrive in peace, development, and social harmony for generations to come.
