Gov. Buni Congratulates Prof. Maina on Vivensa Academy Award

Yobe Governor, Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni CON, COMN, has congratulated the Director, Yobe State Biomedical Research and Training Centre, Prof. Mahmoud Bukar Maina, on winning the Vivensa Academy Rising Star Excellence Award (UK).
The Vivensa Academy Rising Star Excellence Award (UK) is presented to research leaders who are advancing innovative work to improve health and wellbeing, particularly in the area of ageing and related conditions such as dementia.
Prof. Maina, founder of the Biomedical Research and Training Centre, Yobe State University, is the first Black recipient of the prestigious award.
The excellence award was presented to Prof. Maina for his achievements in research on dementia and ageing, and for his efforts in building inclusive research systems that connect communities with healthcare and scientific innovation.
This award follows other recent recognitions including the Transmitter Rising Star Award (2025), a global recognition supported by the Simons Foundation (USA) highlighting emerging leaders in neuroscience, and his selection into the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) Global Investigator Network, making him the first Nigerian and second African in the prestigious group. These recognitions continue to place Yobe State on the global map of science and health research.
Governor Buni said the director’s exploits in scientific research is doing the state proud. “Prof. Maina is doing us proud and placing Yobe State on the global map of science and research.
“Yobe State Government will continue to support him and all other Yobeans to achieve their full potential in their respective fields of endeavour,” he assured.
