Gov Buni Reconstructs 59km Road To Boost Access, Development

By Hussaini Ibrahm

Yobe State, Nigeria — Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has commenced the reconstruction of the 59-kilometre Kariyari–Dapchi–Bayamari Road as part of his administration’s efforts to improve connectivity, strengthen economic activities and enhance access to essential services across the state.

The project, which is expected to improve movement of people, agricultural produce and goods, is another major infrastructure intervention by the Buni administration aimed at opening up communities and improving the livelihoods of residents.

In a statement issued by the Focal Person, Digital and Strategic Communications, Yusuf Ali, the government said the road reconstruction was part of Governor Buni’s commitment to expanding infrastructure development and creating an enabling environment for economic growth.

The statement noted that the project would provide easier access to rural communities, support agricultural activities and improve the movement of residents to social facilities, including healthcare centres and markets.

The initiative has been described as a significant step towards addressing infrastructure gaps that have affected communities across the state, particularly in rural areas where poor road networks have limited access to basic services.

The Governor Buni administration is also reconstructing the 53-kilometre Bayamari–Geidam Road as part of its broader road development programme.

Similarly, the administration has completed the reconstruction of the 26-kilometre Damaturu–Kalallawa Road and the 12-kilometre Bayamari–Kariyari Bridge, also known as the Yunusari Road.

The government further disclosed that the contract for the reconstruction of the Kalallawa–Babbangida–Lantewa–Kariyari Road had been awarded to strengthen connectivity between rural and urban communities.

Commending Governor Buni’s intervention, residents and stakeholders described the projects as important investments that would improve transportation, promote trade and support the growth of local economies.

Infrastructure analysts have consistently identified functional road networks as critical to improving healthcare delivery, especially in rural communities where residents often face difficulties accessing hospitals and primary healthcare facilities due to poor transportation links.

With the ongoing projects, Governor Buni’s administration is expected to further strengthen access to essential services while supporting agricultural productivity and economic development across Yobe State.

The governor has continued to prioritise infrastructure development as a key component of his administration’s agenda, with road construction and rehabilitation forming part of efforts to accelerate sustainable development in the state.
