1.) IPOB: WE’RE READY FOR PEACEFUL DIALOGUE TO EXIST FROM NIGERIA
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has declared its readiness to meet with the Nigerian government for negotiations and dialogue on the peaceful exit of Biafra from Nigeria through a United Nations, UN-supervised referendum.
IPOB started peaceful agitation for Biafra independence in 2012. However, the agitation took a different and disturbing dimension in 2015 when IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was arrested by the Buhari-led administration.
2.) GOV. MUTFWANG CONDEMNS MURDER OF PLATEAU FULANI LEADER
Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has condemned the murder of Ardo Adamu Gabdo, the Fulani leader of Panyam District in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, who yet-to-be identified persons killed.
Mr Mutfwang condemned the act in a statement by his media aide, Gyang Bere, on Saturday in Jos.
Mr Gabdo was declared missing by security agencies on September 24.
But his dead body was later recovered on Thursday, October 5, by troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) at Boi, a border community between Plateau and Bauchi state.
3.) INSECURITY CLAIMS OVER 531 LIVES IN FOUR MONTHS, FARMS DESERTED
Over 521 persons have been killed by terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements between July 1 and October 6, 2023, Sunday PUNCH can confirm, highlighting the worsening state of insecurity in the country.
Daily Hint learned that most of the incidents occurred in the Northwest, North Central and some parts of the Southeast.
4.) BREAST CANCER REMAINS LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR NIGERIAN WOMEN
The Breast Cancer Association of Nigeria says the lack of early detection and treatment of breast cancer has kept the ailment as the leading cause of death among Nigerian women.
The National President of BRECAN, Mrs Tolu Taiwo, stated this in Ibadan on Saturday during a Breast Cancer Sensitisation programme.
5.) LAGDO DAM: EXPECT FLOOD IN 9 STATES – NEMA ALERTS NIGERIANS
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has alerted Nigerians to expect floods in nine states as Cameroon began the release of water from its Lagdo Dam.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the states are: Adamawa, Taraba, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Anambra, Edo, Delta and Bayelsa.
Mr Mustapha Ahmed, Director General, NEMA, disclosed this on Saturday in Abuja when he briefed newsmen on the release of water from the dam.
6.) FG TARGETS 40M JOBS IN 2 YEARS FROM METHANOL TECHNOLOGY
The federal government said its methanol fuel technology programme would create over 40 million new employment opportunities for Nigerians in two years.
The Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, who disclosed this in Abuja at the weekend, said the government’s methanol economy revolution would harness the vast potential of methanol as a clean and sustainable energy source and position the country as a leader in Africa’s energy transition.
7.) TRIBUNAL REQUESTED US TO WITHDRAW FROM KANO GUBER APPEAL – IN
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened up on the issues surrounding the letter in circulation signifying the commission stands not to participate in the appeal against the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal judgement sacking Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The Head of the Legal Department in Kano, Barrister Suleiman Alkali, who signed the letter in circulation, told Daily Trust in a chat that it was the tribunal secretariat that requested the electoral umpire to write the said letter.
8.) CERTIFICATE: ATIKU APPLIES TO FILE FRESH EVIDENCE AGAINST TINUBU AT SUPREME COURT
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has applied for leave of the Supreme Court to file what he termed as fresh evidence.
Atiku, in the motion he filed through his team of lawyers led by Chief Chris Uche, SAN, said the evidence he is seeking to tender before the apex court, would establish his allegation that President Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, submitted forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in aid of his qualification to participate in the presidential election that held on February 25.
9.) INSECURITY: FRSC SEEKS FG’S PERMISSION TO BEAR FIREARMS
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says there is a need for its personnel to bear firearms in discharging their duties, considering the level of security challenges across the country.
The Corps Marshal, Mr Dauda Biu, made this known on Saturday while inaugurating 1,762 personnel of the corps who just concluded their four-month basic course at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC), Kontagora, Niger.
10.) FG SUSPENDS N-POWER, BEGINS INVESTIGATION
The Federal Government has suspended the N-Power program indefinitely.
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, announced the indefinite suspension while speaking in an interview on TVC News on Saturday.
