I am still alive, says Gowon

Rumours of the death of former Nigerian head of state General Yakubu Gowon have been denied by his personal aide, Adeyeye E. Ajayi.

In a statement released today, 2023, Ajayi said that Gowon is “still around and well”.

“General Gowon is not in a hurry to go anywhere,” the statement said. “

The 88 year old served as military head of state from 1966 to 1975 when he was ousted in a coup by his fellow officers.
