Lang stated this in Abuja today when Governor Mai Mala Buni CON paid him a courtesy visit.

He said that without quality education, there will be no development and progress for the state, any society, or nation.

“I am happy to learn that Yobe state government has engaged in training and retraining of teachers as part of the process to rejuvinate basic education in the state,” he said.

The ambassador assured the continued support of the Swiss government to the northeast states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.

He lamented that inaccessibility to the state in the past has denied the state of some interventions.

Mr. Lang said emphasis would be given to education, agriculture, and healthcare delivery to support the government and people of Yobe state.

Governor Buni informed the ambassador that all communities displaced by the insurgency have been resettled except Malundunari community, which the state government in collaboration with a development partner is working towards its resettlement.

He said the government provided infrastructure in the communities to facilitate their resettlement with dignity.

“We provided schools, health facilities, water, roads, and others for smooth resettlement of the communities.

The governor said that although the displaced persons were supported with means of livelihood, the need for more support, especially in agriculture, is key and necessary.

“Agriculture is the mainstay of our people. The returnees need more support in agriculture for a sustainable means of livelihood.

“When there is support in agriculture and infrastructure, these would not only encourage the people to stay in their communities but would also curb rural-urban drift,” Governor Buni said.
