JUST IN: FG extends Eid-el-Fitr public holiday by one day
By Aisha Musa
The federal government has approved Thursday, April 11, as additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
The announcement was made on Tuesday in Abuja, in a statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Aishetu Ndayako.
She said the extension followed the approval by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Ndayako said while congratulating muslims on the successful completion of Ramadan fasting, the minister described the exercise as one of spiritual rejuvenation.
The minister, she said, restated the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu’s government to ensuring a safe and prosperous nation.
Recall that the government had earlier announced Tuesday and Wednesday as public holiday for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
The non-sighting of the moon on Monday, however, made it impossible for the celebration of the festival which comes upon sighting of the new moon.
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, had on Monday declared Tuesday as the 30th day of Ramadan and Wednesday, Eid-El-Fitr.
The announcement was made on Monday in a statement by the chairman of the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Janaidu.
