Suffocating Heat-Air, Blackout-Insecurity, Water Scarcity Make A Welcome Home

It was a week-long scholarly conference being organised by the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR; a knowledge sharing, professional development based.

The setting was June 12 Conference Hall, Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria; 22nd to 26 April, 2024. The going was relatively casual and interestingly smooth, taking off from Yola, the Adamawa state capital.

Some have had lucky bookings from Lamido Adamawa International Airport Yola to either Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja or straight to Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos where vehicles were stationed for pick up to June 12 Conference Hall at the Gateway state.

Some have jointly used private vehicles to Abuja to join other state delegates enroute to the Gateway, whichever way was a fun journey to the maiden week-long activities featuring lecturers, induction, investiture, annual general meeting, networking and sightseeing tour, to mention a few.

The return was as prayed for as safe. However, arriving at night, a heat-emitting, sweating-darkness celebrated the contingents from Adamawa. What a suffocating welcome home! One of the contingents would exclaim.

The contingents were greeted with threatening caution about some scary locations, mostly in Jimeta metropolis, marked as Shilla colony; the outlawed, known notoriously for attacking passersby with dangerous weapons to confiscate handsets, money and other important valuables.

Earlier, there was also the news that a security officer was stabbed to death by a Weed vendor in the evening at the Yola ancient city market.

This generated conversation while at Ekiti, whether or not the victim was on duty and lonely without company and who could have been the criminal, if arrested where’s the picture of his arrest?

There have been reports of arrest of the outlawed at different locations in the state. Criminal hideouts and Shilla occupied locations were said to be visited by the security agency and arrests have been made to sanitise the scenes, however, It is not yet Uhuru…
