FUDECO Unveils International Day Of Pulaaku

The Fulbe Development and Cultural Organisation (FUDECO) plans to celebrate a National Day of Pulaaku to coincide with the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, usually organised by the UN every August.

During the 2024 edition, which is scheduled for 9th August, FUDECO will support State chapters to host at least one cultural activity to mark the annual celebration.

All eleven FUDECO State chapters and the FCT will participate in selecting and organising their own unique event to mark the historic day of Pulaaku.

The students wing of FUDECO will join the Nasarawa State chapter in organising their cultural day in Keffi, which has been in the pipeline for a while.

The other ten State chapters preparing to host Pulaaku day are: Bauchi, Adamawa, Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, Kano, Gombe, Sokoto, Yobe, Taraba and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Each of the chapters is expected to deliver at least one special event to commemorate the International Day of Pulaaku.

According to Ms. Jamila Hassan, Vice Chairperson of FUDECO in Adamawa, the State chapter “plans to showcase celebrated Mbororo girls who have been enrolled into Ardo Kaku Primary School, which was established and funded by FUDECO.”

At the event, the student participants will display a variety of talents, which would serve as an ample testimony to how young girls are beginning to access and adapt basic education among pastoralist communities

FUDECO Chairman, SS Nana is deeply excited about the steady growth of the organisation and paid tribute to all donors and volunteers for their various contributions in helping FUDECO realise its goals.

He said, “Our mission of offering a broad range of humanitarian services to our pastoralist communities is being realised in all sectors”

“From a mere concept five years ago, to a full fledged volunteer tower supporting education, healthcare, agriculture, businesses and more”.

All these have been made possible because of our strong and committed leadership at all levels.
