A Patriotic Call for Reflection: Prof. Zulum’s Leadership Vs Media Rhetoric
By Bashir Bukar Mohammed
Dear Honorable Minister, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Nigeria
As a concerned citizen of Borno State, I feel compelled to express my views on the patriotic leadership of His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, Governor of Borno State, especially in contrast to your approach as the Minister of Information.
While you rely heavily on press releases and media appearances, Governor Zulum has consistently demonstrated leadership through action. He does not confine himself to the comfort of the Government House. Instead, he traverses all 27 Local Government Areas of Borno, often at personal risk, to assess the realities on ground and address the needs of our people directly.
Notably, he has supported the military using state resources in their fight against insurgency—an extraordinary move that reflects deep patriotism and commitment to national security. His recent remarks urging the military to intensify efforts following attacks on military bases are not criticisms, but rather a wake-up call for the Federal Government to take decisive action. Such attacks signify growing boldness on the part of insurgents and must not be ignored.
Engr Babagana Umara Zulum is not seeking media attention; he is demanding results. His proactive governance and selfless commitment to Borno’s recovery have made him not only more effective than most in Abuja—but, respectfully, more patriotic than even yourself as the Minister of Information.
It is high time we stop politicizing truth and begin acting on it. Nigeria needs leaders who lead from the front, not from the comfort of television studios. At this moment, Zulum is doing more for the image, unity, and security of this nation than many at the federal level—including yourself.
Let us not ignore his call. The people are watching, and history will judge.
