Adamawa : 4 houses destroyed, one person injured in Kawa and Lamza communal Clash

A Communal clash has been reported between people of Kawa village and Lamza community over lingering land issue in Guyuk local government area of Adamawa state.

Report from the area indicates that the contentious land is situated at the border between the two disputing communities which was said to be demarcated by the late paramount ruler of the area late Kwadi Nunguriya Dr.Wilfred Kimde .

But crisis started when a resident of Kawa village started developing a piece of land within the contentious portion then some aggrieved members of Lamza community reported to the new king, HRH Kwadi Nunguriya, Kuruhaye Dishon Dansanda ll registering their protest of “an intruder” on the ancestral home and that old demarcation should be reviewed.

Eye witness told this reporter that, people of Kawa community were taken by surprise with the cammondo style morning attack launched on them on Friday 14th March 2025 allegedly by the people of Lamza where 4 houses were destroyed and one person was fatally injured and been hospitalized.

Confirming the incident,the Adamawa state police command in a press statement issued by its public relations officer,SP Suleiman Nguroje disclosed that the Commissioner of Police. CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered for an investigation in the remote causes of the communal crisis.

“The CP has directed the Deputy commissioner of Police, in charge of Department of investigation, to embark on a detailed and comprehensive investigation into the alleged communal clash resulting in destruction of property which occurred on the 14th of March, 2025.

“The CP is deeply saddened by this unfortunate loss of property caused by this unfortunate act and reassures the Government and Good people of Guyuk that Justice will be served.

“The police Boss directs men and officers deployed in the area to immediately bring perpetrators to book as normalcy has since been restored”. The statement declared

Checks by this reporter has shown that the land dispute between the Lamza and Kawa villages has been lingering for over a decade with the Lamza community still claiming ownership of the contentious portion of the land.
