Adamawa government confirms 25 dead in the Sunday night flood.
From Umar Dankano, Yola.
The Adamawa state Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has visited the victims of the Sunday’s late night flood which claimed many lives and destroyed properties and farmlands in the affected areas.
Governor Fintiri upon his return to the state on Monday visited the scenes of the devastating flood in the state and commiserated with victims and assessed the level of destruction
Fintiri while addressing victims of the flood camped at Aliyu Mustafa College Yola announced that the state government will establish a technical committee to assess the extent of the damage.
He sympathized with families who lost loved ones and property, assuring them that the government would support efforts to rebuild and relocate their homes.
“We will constitute a technical committee to carry out a thorough assessment in collaboration with the State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). From there, we will take the necessary steps,” he stated.
He also declared that available report has shown that 23 people lost their lives in the tragic flood advising critics of his government to always have their facts intact before dishing out information to avoid misinforming the public for political selfish interest.
According to him, the primary causes of the flooding were the heavy rainfall, blockage of water channels and storm water drainage systems, which prevented the runoff from flowing into the river.
However, the NEMA Coordinator in charge of Adamawa/Taraba states,Mr.Ladan Ayuba confirmed that 25 people lost their lives and most of those hospitalized have been discharged as well
