Adamawa: OXFAM, Stakeholders advocate for Gender equality, women inclusion in governance.

Some International Non governmental organizations ; Oxfam in conjunction with CRUDAN and GIZ  have joined other stakeholders in advocating for gender equality and women inclusion in the scheme of things in both public and private space.

This was part of the crucial resolutions reached at the 2025 International Women’s day celebration held by stakeholders in Guyuk local government area of Adamawa state weekend focused majorly on women economic empowerment, barriers and opportunities.

The occasion with the theme ” For all women and Girls; Rights, equality, empowerment” was graced by invited  policy makers,rural women groups, security agencies, government officials, traditional rulers, media and local civil society organizations.

Stakeholders unanimously applauded the growing impact of gender-focused initiatives anchored by Oxfam and its partners in the zone calling for more women inclusion and empowerment opportunities in the country.

Project Coordinator of Oxfam, Wummi Ifeoluwa in her welcome remarks said that the meeting was meant to boost promoting the rights of women and improving gender equality through conflict sensitive in the local council.

Ifeoluwa expressed gratitude for the support and corporation being rendered to their organization and its partners calling on women to be more enterprising and productive in their endeavors.

Ifeoluwa said it is high time women should be encourage to take their proper places in all sectors of human endeavors noting that the roles of a woman can never be over emphasized.

In  his speech, Chairman of Guyuk local government area, Barrister Shalom Kassa expressed satisfaction with the initiative describing it as “a right step towards the right direction”.

Represented by the legislative leader,Hon. Audi Mwamdirga,Kassa said his council is a gender-friendly one pledging  support and corporation to the emancipation of womenfolk  in our communities.

Speaking for women groups, Hon. Mary Samuel,Adviser to the council chairman on Women Affairs and Rose Roshia, the Secretary, Women Community band Assembly Guyuk confessed to the fact that the interface has broaden their knowledge pledging to step it down to their various larger communities.

While contributing in panel discussion segment of the programme,District Head of Falu,James Digoma observed that in the past,women have been marginalized based cultural and religious beliefs but now, civilization has changed the narrative for ensuring that women are actively involved in decision-making processes.

At the end of the program, the cardinal objective  for sustained efforts in dismantling barriers to women’s emancipation were advanced so that stakeholders can work on them assiduously with Oxfam and its partners reaffirming their commitment to ensure promoting gender equality through initiatives that challenge harmful cultural practices and enhance women’s rights.
