Adamawa Youth Urged to Unite in Support of Hon. Aliyu Wakili Boya Amidst Criticism

By Tom Garba, Yola

An Alumni of National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), PLSC, and Secretary General of the West African Youth Congress (WAYC), Amb. Mohammed Ahmed Marafa has urged the Youth of Adamawa State to unite in support of Hon Barr Aliyu Wakili Boya, House of representatives member representing the people of Fufore and Song Federal constituency at the National Assembly.

Marafa recalled last week which was marked by both celebration and controversy, the achievements of Hon. Aliyu Boya Wakili who’s the Chairman of the Committee on Police Institutions at the National Assembly, have sparked a heated dialogue among the youth of Adamawa State.

Following the recent recruitment of over 100 new policemen from Adamawa, social media erupted with applause for this significant step towards addressing youth unemployment and enhancing security in the region. However, this positive development has also drawn the ire of some critics, overshadowing the commendable efforts of a dedicated public servant.

Last week, Hon. Boya hosted a ceremony to celebrate the recruitment of new police officers, a milestone that was met with enthusiasm by many young people in the state. This initiative, which promises to provide job opportunities for the youth, is a testament to Hon. Boya’s relentless lobbying efforts both within Adamawa and at the National Assembly. His track record of securing vital opportunities for his constituents stands as an example of effective leadership in action.

Despite the positive reception from a large segment of the youth, a faction of media commentators and political analysts, often referred to as “data boys,” questioned the legitimacy of Hon. Boya’s achievements.

These critics, driven by political motivations and armed with little more than social media accounts, failed to recognize the tangible impact of Hon. Boya’s work. Their skepticism not only undermines the progress being made but also dismisses the hard-fought victories that can only come from dedicated advocacy.

Historical records reveal that few, if any, of Hon. Boya’s contemporaries in the National Assembly have achieved similar milestones. His commitment to public service extends beyond recruitment drives; he has also spearheaded initiatives such as the educational scholarship trust fund, providing financial assistance to 1,000 students by covering their JAMB examination fees, thus fostering educational advancement in the community.

Unfortunately, Hon. Boya’s success has made him a target for rivals who lack comparable accomplishments. These political adversaries have resorted to smear campaigns, using platforms such as Sahara Reporters to disseminate misinformation and discredit his efforts. Such tactics threaten not only the reputation of a dedicated leader but also the future prospects of the youth who stand to benefit from his initiatives.

As the youth of Adamawa State, it is imperative that we rally behind leaders who are genuinely striving to improve our circumstances. Hon. Aliyu Wakili Boya’s work is not merely a political endeavor; it represents a beacon of hope for young people, symbolizing the potential for change and empowerment within our state. The recent recruitment of police officers is more than just a filling of vacancies; it is a significant step towards enhancing our security infrastructure and providing meaningful employment opportunities for our youth.

This initiative underscores the importance of community engagement and the need for collaborative efforts between government officials and the youth of our state. It is high time some of the political and social media critics in Adamawa State take a firm stand on supporting those who work for the people rather than attempting to destroy them. We must recognize that the recruitment of these police officers is not just about benefiting our families, but an empowerment for any young person in our state. This achievement deserves celebration, as it will help reduce unemployment and insecurity in our dear state.

To people like me, Hon. Aliyu Wakili Boya is now a political icon and a leader to reckon with. He is paving the way for the younger generation with political interests. As Adamawa youth, we must stop the attitude of tearing down our finest individuals and instead focus on fostering a culture of support and unity. If we continue to engage in divisive rhetoric, we risk limiting our own opportunities in the future.

The path to a brighter future for Adamawa lies in collaboration and mutual respect among all stakeholders. Let us channel our energies into constructive dialogue that can lead to actionable solutions. We must stand together as a united front, advocating for policies that uplift and empower us, rather than allowing negativity to overshadow progress.
