Again, APC Names Gov. Buni as Co-Chairman II, National Campaign Council for FCT Polls
By Yusuf Ali
The governing All Progressives Congress (APC) has once again entrusted Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, with a key national assignment, naming him Co-Chairman II of the party’s National Campaign Council for the forthcoming Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Councils elections scheduled for February 21.
The 137-member National Campaign Council is chaired by the Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, with the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Sen. Hope Uzodimma, also serving as Co-Chairman, alongside Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State.
According to a notice signed by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, and circulated via the party’s official platforms, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, will serve as Secretary of the Council.
The composition of the council reflects the party’s determination to prosecute the FCT polls with broad national strength, as 25 out of the 29 APC governors are members.
Other prominent members include the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen; Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Jibril Barau; principal officers of both chambers of the National Assembly; key committee chairmen, ministers, members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), state party chairmen, and former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, among others.
Governor Mai Mala Buni’s reappointment further underlines his growing influence within the APC’s national structure. Widely regarded within the party as the APC’s compass and master strategist, Buni is currently steering three major strategic assignments critical to the party’s cohesion and future direction.
He serves as Chairman of the APC Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation Committee, Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee and Expansion of the National Executive Committee, and Secretary of the National Convention Planning Committee—a rare convergence of responsibilities that places him at the heart of the party’s reform, reconciliation and electoral preparedness.
The APC noted that the National Campaign Council will be formally inaugurated on Wednesday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja at 10:00am, ahead of intensified mobilisation across the six Area Councils of the FCT.
