Again: Yobe Emerges Tops 2024 Subnational Audit Efficacy Index

Yobe State has once again emerged as the best-performing state in Nigeria’s 2024 Subnational Audit Efficacy (SAE) Index, reinforcing its reputation for transparency and accountability in public financial management.
The ranking, conducted by the Paradigm Leadership Support Initiative (PLSI), a civic organization promoting public accountability, was released on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in Abuja. The SAE Index assesses how effectively states manage public funds and implement audit recommendations.
According to the report, Yobe State secured the top position with a score of 73%, followed by Ekiti (54%) and Adamawa (47%). At the bottom of the ranking, Ogun, Bayelsa, and Ebonyi states occupied the 34th position, each scoring 7%.
PLSI’s Executive Director, Olusegun Elemo, commended Yobe’s consistent performance, stating, “The SAE Index is a tool for driving reform and strengthening public trust. Yobe’s achievement shows that prioritizing transparency in public financial management is possible and rewarding.”
The SAE Index evaluates states based on key aspects of the public audit action cycle, including the submission, review, and implementation of audit reports. It aims to foster a
