APC governors endorse Tinubu, reaffirm commitment to Renewed Hope Agenda
By Hussaini Ibrahim
LAGOS, Nigeria — All governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed full confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing his policies and reaffirming their support for his potential re-election in 2027.
The declaration emerged during a high-level meeting of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) held in Lagos State under the chairmanship of Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The meeting was attended by the APC National Chairman, all Deputy National Chairmen, the National Secretary, and other senior party officials.
According to a communiqué read by Forum Chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, the governors commended the Tinubu administration for stabilising the economy, reforming national security structures, and implementing development-focused policies across the country.
“The Forum reviewed the security situation across the country and expressed appreciation for the improved coordination between federal, state, and local security structures, as well as the courage and sacrifices of security agencies and community volunteers.
“We resolved to strengthen community-based security initiatives, intelligence gathering, and conflict-prevention mechanisms, while supporting victims of violence and disaster,” Uzodimma said.
The governors highlighted the strategic importance of infrastructure, urban renewal, and rural development in driving productivity, attracting investment, and improving living standards.
Lagos State’s pioneering efforts in transport reforms, urban regeneration, and innovative financing models were cited as benchmarks for replication across other states.
On economic reforms, Uzodimma noted: “Recognising the temporary burdens that accompany necessary macro-economic reforms, the Forum acknowledged the resilience and patience of Nigerians and expressed deep appreciation for the sacrifices being made in the collective interest of a stronger and more inclusive economy.
“We resolved to intensify state-level interventions in areas such as food production and distribution, support for small and medium-scale enterprises, youth employment, social protection for the poorest and most vulnerable, and targeted relief for workers and low-income households.”
The communiqué also underscored the role of citizen engagement and effective local governance in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Governors resolved to deepen reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and service delivery in local government administration.
“We agreed to expand platforms for citizen engagement, including town hall meetings, consultations with traditional and religious leaders, civil society, labour, professional bodies, youth, and women’s groups. Listening to the people, explaining government policies clearly, and adjusting implementation strategies based on feedback are essential to building trust and sustaining democratic legitimacy,” the statement added.
Governors reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC, praising party leadership for promoting internal democracy, discipline, reconciliation, and inclusiveness. They pledged to continue stabilising the party while maintaining focus on its mandate.
Sanwo-Olu, in his closing remarks, described the deliberations as a strong affirmation of commitment to the APC and President Tinubu’s leadership. “It is never easy, but you all showed exceptional commitment to the progress of our nation. You came prepared, represented your states beautifully, and Lagos is proud to host you,” he said.
The meeting concluded with a call for social cohesion, inter-faith harmony, and inter-ethnic understanding, urging stakeholders to tackle criminality, hate speech, and divisive tendencies decisively.
