As Gov. Buni Set to Present 2026 Budget to Yobe Assembly

By Yusuf Ali

As Governor Mai Mala Buni, CON, prepares to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Yobe State House of Assembly tomorrow, the event is more than just another annual budget ritual. It stands as a clear statement of his government’s unwavering commitment to the continued development of Yobe State, guided by the administration’s enduring mantra of continuity, consolidation, and innovation.

For Governor Buni, budgeting is not a ceremonial obligation but a strategic framework for deepening progress, expanding opportunities, and ensuring sustainable growth across all sectors.

The outgoing 2025 fiscal year vividly reflects this commitment, as the administration recorded remarkable achievements that have positively transformed the socio-economic landscape of the state. I

In the area of infrastructure, Governor Buni’s government has continued to expand the frontiers of development with massive road construction and rehabilitation projects connecting major towns and rural communities. The ongoing urban renewal drive in Damaturu and other key towns will give the state capital a modern outlook, with improved road networks, enhanced street lighting, and upgraded public utilities that will make life easier for residents.

Education has also remained at the heart of the Buni administration’s development agenda. In 2025, government investments in the sector resulted in the renovation and construction of hundreds of classrooms, the provision of instructional materials, and the recruitment of qualified teachers to strengthen the learning environment. Model schools established across the state are now serving as centres of excellence, reflecting the governor’s passion for nurturing a knowledgeable and skilled future generation.

Similarly, the health sector has witnessed a series of upgrades and expansions aimed at improving access to quality medical care. The revitalization of general and primary health centres across the local government areas, has greatly improved healthcare delivery. The administration’s continued support for free maternal and child healthcare has also contributed to better health outcomes for women and children in the state.

Agriculture and livestock development remain vital pillars of Governor Buni’s economic diversification strategy. His administration has empowered thousands of farmers with improved seedlings, fertilizers, and mechanized equipment to boost food production and enhance livelihoods. The creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development has further demonstrated the governor’s foresight in addressing the needs of pastoral communities, promoting modern livestock practices, and fostering peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

In addition, youth empowerment and job creation have been central to the administration’s drive toward human capital development. Through the Ministry of Wealth Creation, many young people have been empowered and equipped with the skills to become self-reliant contributors to the economy. This practical approach to empowerment reflects Governor Buni’s belief that the strength of the state lies in the creativity and productivity of its youth.

Security, the foundation upon which every other achievement rests, has equally remained a top priority. Through proactive collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, and local communities, Yobe has maintained relative peace and stability, allowing governance and development to thrive. The government’s continuous investment in security infrastructure and community engagement has made the state a safe haven for progress and investment in the North-East region.

As the governor sets to unveil the 2026 budget before the State Assembly, it is widely expected that the new fiscal plan will consolidate these gains while introducing innovative measures to accelerate development. The 2026 budget will focus on sustaining growth, strengthening institutions, and leveraging technology to deliver more efficient and transparent governance.

This year’s presentation is, therefore, not just about figures and allocations but about vision, commitment, and results. It is a continuation of Governor Buni’s developmental journey to build a Yobe that works for everyone — a state where the dividends of democracy are felt in every community. Guided by the principles of continuity, consolidation, and innovation, the 2026 budget represents another bold step toward a more prosperous, inclusive, and resilient Yobe State.
