ASUU denies giving Nigerian government 21-day strike notice
By Aremu Adebayo
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has debunked reports making the rounds that it placed the Federal Government on a 21-day strike notice.
Reports had emerged online suggesting that the academic union had concluded plans to embark on a nationwide strike over the non-implementation of some agreements it had hitherto entered into with the government.
According to the report, the notice was issued at the end of a meeting by ASUU’s National Executive Council, NEC, held at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State.
However, when contacted by our reporter the ASUU president, Emmanuel Osodeke, debunked the report, saying it was just “social media talk.”
According to him, if the union decides to take any action, it will be made known to the general public officially.
He said: “All those things are just social media talks. When we want to do anything, we announce it formally and we will send you a copy.”
