Barcelona monitoring N’Golo Kanté situation – report
By Luis Mazarie
FC Barcelona are on alert over N’Golo Kanté. A new report from Catalonia says that Barça have joined the list of teams who are interested in the French midfielder.
Atlético de Madrid and West Ham are known to have sent proposals to the Al-Ittihad player. Barcelona had sounded him out last year but ultimately could not offer him a contract to his liking, and he left as a free agent from Chelsea FC to join the Saudi League.
After a successful turn at the UEFA Euro 2024, Kanté is said to be ready to take on the top five leagues again. It’s understood the Saudis do not want to part with him, but there’s some hope that they will let him go if Kanté himself makes it known he wants to leave.
Another big problem is his salary. He was given a monster contract by the Saudis, which is unlikely to be matched anywhere else. But if the player himself wants to return to Europe, there’s a high chance he accepts and understands his wage will have to be cut quite significantly.
At the moment, Barcelona has a lot of midfielders injured or still recovering from the international tournaments. There’s hope that when the squad is fully fit, the team will be performing at a higher level.
Still, Barça do not have a player quite like Kanté in the squad. The closest may be Marc Bernal, a youngster who has impressed in pre-season. It remains to be seen if he will do or if they will be looking for a new addition.
