BCAI’s WAVES Project strengthens police capacity on GBV response
By Hajara Abdullahi
The Bridge Connect Africa Initiative (BCAI) says its Women Against Violence Empowered Through Sustainability (WAVES) project has strengthened the capacity of gender desk officers across 20 divisions of the Nigeria Police Force in Kano.
Project Lead, Nathan Bako, said the training was designed to improve survivor-centred and trauma-informed responses to cases of gender-based violence.
He disclosed this during a dissemination event held on Thursday in Kano to present outcomes from the nine-month implementation of the project.
The project, he said is supported by the French Embassy in Nigeria and implemented in partnership with AgrofixNG.
Bako explained that strengthening institutions remains a key pillar of the initiative aimed at improving support systems for survivors.
Also speaking, the Technical Partner’s Team Lead of AgrofixNG, Eric Andrew, said the project adopted a multi-stakeholder approach by engaging civil society organisations, community leaders and development actors.
Andrew noted that such collaboration ensures that both social protection systems and economic empowerment programmes work together to support women.
